REMEMBER THE LORD
By Jemima Rayan
We always give gifts to our dear
ones so that they will remember us. We sign autographs saying,
'forget me not'. Why? We want them to remember us. God gave us
the ultimate gift and the bible says in 2 Cor. 9:15 that God gave
'His indescribable gift'.
No words can describe the gift. That is why God says, "Remember
Me".
To remember the Lord is one thing
God expects from every believer. From the Old Testament, God is
repeatedly telling his children to remember Him. The Bible instructs
us 'to remember the creator in the
days of our youth'. (Ecc 12:1). Pro 3:5 says, In
all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
1.Remember Him when you
get wealth:
The Lord wanted the Israelites
to remember Him. Deut 8:11 says, Beware that you do not forget
the Lord your God. God gave them the power to get wealth and wanted
to establish His covenant, which is an everlasting covenant. Deut
8:18 says "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for
it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish
His covenant which He swore to you fathers, as it is this day".
God
always does something in our life so that we will remember Him.
What a pathetic thing it is for men to forget the Lord when they
get rich. God is grieved at that. Be humble and thankful for what
the Lord has done. We should remember where we came from.
2. Remember Him when you
get the Victory:
David turned out to be a victorious
king. Saul killed a thousand but David killed a ten thousand.
The secret is that he remembered the Lord. He says, 'Some
trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the
name of the Lord our God'. David made a decision to remember
the Lord. (Ps 20:7) David says, 'I remember Your name in the night,
O Lord! (Ps 119:55). David makes a choice to remember the Lord.
Have you made a decision like
David? Do you want to be a man after God's own heart? The Bible
says in Prov. 21:31 that 'The horse is prepared for the day of
battle, But victory is of the Lord'. How many times we have thought
that 'we did it'. No, it is the Lord who works through us. It
is time to give God all the glory.
3. Remember Him when you
get help:
The Lord delivers us from trouble.
When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will
lift up a standard against Him. (Is 59:19)? It is God who comes
for the rescue. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But
the Lord delivers him out of them all. (Ps 34: 19) God commands
His angels to take charge over us. (Ps 91:11)
The Psalmist says in Ps 63:6,7,
I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches,
Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow
of Your wings I will rejoice. How much David acknowledges the
Lord! Do you tell the Lord day and night that He is your help?
4. Remember Him at the Lord's
table:
The Lord Jesus on the same night
He was betrayed, took the bread and gave thanks, He broke it and
said, Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this
in 'remembrance of Me' (I Cor 11:24, 25). Jesus
did something so that the disciples will remember Him.
Before going to the Cross,
Jesus made sure he did something, which will remind the disciples
of Himself. We should never forget the love which sent Jesus to
the Cross of Calvary. How happy the Lord will be if we remember
him in our lives.
5. Remember Him as the resurrected
Savior:
Some remember Jesus as 'a
baby '. Some remember Jesus as 'Crucified
Jesus'. They even keep such pictures to remind them of
that. Because, we always want to keep the pictures of our loved
ones in a way we want to remember them.
But we remember Jesus Christ
as "The resurrected Savior"
Paul the apostle writes to Timothy, 'Remember
that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead,
according to my gospel'. (2 Tim 2:8) We are serving a living God.
Let us remember the Lord our
God every moment of our life. Amen.
